The Fallen Outdoors is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization that connects veterans to each other through outdoor adventures. Our mission is to organize therapeutic outdoor adventures for those currently serving, those who have served, and our Gold Star families. Our aim is to connect veterans and service members with like-minded individuals while teaching them skills and passions they can continue for a lifetime. The Fallen Outdoors is entirely run by service members and veterans who volunteer their time and expertise to help our members (able-bodied and disabled, active-duty or veteran status) and Gold Star families enjoy therapeutic outdoor adventures. These activities allow them to do what they love but may not be able to due to changes in duty stations or other various reasons. Team New England was added to the organization in 2021 to help reach our great veterans and active-duty members in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Led by Jeremy Myer, Team New England is run by a group of veteran and active-duty volunteers known as Pro-Staff Members. Each Pro-Staff Member brings their knowledge and love for their favorite outdoor activities, making Team New England diverse and successful in the great outdoors. In 2023 alone, Team N.E., comprised of 28 staffers, proudly took over 297 veterans and service members outdoors. Our goal is to continue building our network to provide a wide variety of outdoor therapeutic opportunities throughout the year at no cost to our members, while also increasing exposure of The Fallen Outdoors and our mission. -History: Founded in 2009 by Eric Bakken, TFO was forged in the mountains of Afghanistan while trying to figure out a way to connect veterans with other veterans throughout the country who had the same outdoors interest. During that combat rotation, Eric had asked members of his unit if they had ever been hunting before. SPC Eric Finniginam and SSG Michael Cardenaz were two of those individuals. They told Eric they had never been hunting and Eric planned to take them on their first hunting trip when they returned to the United States. Unfortunately, SPC Finniginam never made it home. Once Eric returned home, life happened and he wasn’t going to do anything but he felt a calling to honor their memory and thus, The Fallen Outdoors was formed. “Living our dreams, because they gave up theirs”
